Be Sweet to Your Heart

February is American Heart Month, a time when all people can focus on their cardiovascular health, because keeping your heart healthy is central to overall good health. It’s time to be sweet to your heart. You are never too old or too young to begin taking good care of your heart. Taking small steps to follow a healthy lifestyle at any age can help prevent heart disease and lower your risk for a heart attack or stroke.
Health Tip #1:
Who knew that you could improve your heart health without opening an eye? Making sure you get at least seven hours of sleep each night is a small step you can take with a huge payoff! Not only will your body feel more rested, but it also significantly decreases your risk for heart disease.
Health Tip #2:
Staying active is the key to a healthy heart! Whether it’s a morning jog, a lunchtime yoga session, or an evening walk, taking the time to exercise is essential. Get out there and get moving – your body and your heart will thank you!
Health Tip #3:
Your heart doesn’t want you to be thirsty! Drinking plenty of water can help protect your heart, as it helps to reduce levels of stress hormones, reduce inflammation, and flush out toxins from the body.
So, make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day for a healthier heart! We recommend about 16 cups of fluids a day for men, and about 12 cups of fluids a day for women!
Health Tip #4:
Fruits and veggies are your heart’s best friend!
Eating smart is an important part of keeping your heart healthy. Incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables into your meals, and opt for lean proteins. Avoid processed and fried foods, as these are often high in saturated fat and unhealthy for the heart.

WHAT IS A MEMORY SCREENING?
A memory screening is a series of questions and/or tasks that take about 20 minutes to complete. The screening can indicate if someone might benefit from a comprehensive medical evaluation. However, it is not intended to diagnose any illness or replace consultation with a qualified health care provider. Screenings at Memory Center are available on select dates throughout the year.
