Spirit of Women’s “Drop and Shop” Benefits Forrest General Hospital’s Cancer Patients, Shoppers, and Local Businesses

Just in time for the holiday season, Forrest General Hospital’s Spirit of Women is giving residents the opportunity to aid cancer patients while getting a head start on their Christmas shopping by supporting local small business.

Spirit of Women is holding its inaugural Drop and Shop which will be in November for three weeks in three different areas of Hattiesburg. During Drop and Shop, residents are asked to “drop” off new, cozy items such as fuzzy socks, beanies, mittens, scarves, and blankets at one of the participating local stores and boutiques. In return, the donor will receive a ticket for a discount or special offer at the participating stores.

When making donations, participating shoppers are urged to consider patterns and colors for both male and female patients.

During Week 1 (November 1-5), residents will have the opportunity to Drop and Shop at locally-owned and operated shops and boutiques in the West Hattiesburg area. During Week 2 (November 8-12), Midtown Hattiesburg is the designated shopping area followed by Downtown Hattiesburg in Week 3 (November 15-19).

All donations will be collected by Forrest General Hospital employees and donated to the Cancer Center for use by patients undergoing treatment.

“As a breast cancer survivor, the decision for my business to participate was an easy one,” said Traci Goodwin, owner of Fig Boutique in Oak Grove. “I received treatment at Forrest General’s Cancer Center, and I’ve seen the gratitude from patients when they receive donations sent during their time of need. Sometimes we take for granted the little things that give comfort to others. Blessing someone in their time of need, whether it be with beanies, fuzzy socks, or even blankets is such a good idea and gives us the opportunity to give back to our community. So, together let’s support Drop and Shop this year!”

Forrest General Hospital’s Hudson, Henderson Recognized with Doctors CARE Awards

Hudson was honored as the Physician Efficiency Champion, which is determined based on data-driven reports that track those measures, while Henderson was recognized as the Physician Communication Champion, which is based on a nomination process involving staff and physicians. These awards are presented quarterly.
